Welcome to the bulletin board!

Make sure you check out the weeky bulletin board party that's held every Monday at 5pm at Amsterdam Manor's beach bar. Sometimes alot of people show up from the bulletin board and sometimes just a few but it's always a great place to enjoy happy hour and the sunset. Happy Hour is from 5pm-6pm (2 for 1 drinks.)

Enjoy! Cool

Yes, Amsterdam Manor (and their beach bar) is located on Eagle Beach.

Where are you staying?

We've stayed there a couple of times in the past (around 2000 and 2001) but now we stay at Amsterdam Manor. LaCabana is a nice timeshare resort (lots of amenities and a full kitchen in all of their units.)

And Amsterdam Manor is right next door to LaCabana so it's less than a 5 minute walk to their beach bar. Very Happy

Good morning Jan and Greg,

Welcome to the bulletin board. I think you'll find this to be the friendliest bb anywhere.

I heartily agree with Amy's suggestion that you try go to the bulletin board party on Monday at Amsterdam Manor's beach bar.

Restaurant choices are plentiful and feature every type of cuisine, served in atmospheres ranging from very casual to very snooty. Okay, I know you didn't ask me, but for a lovely dinner for the two of you, may I suggest that you try Papillon, a delightful French restaurant in the high-rise area. You can read the reviews on it here on the bb.

You may want to check out some of the trip reports on this bb to get an idea of where people like to eat, drink, dance, swim, snorkel, play the slots and tables. For 2010, mine is there, along with Amy's and Corinne's.

One question for you Jan. Are you a shopper? There is lots to choose from. Jewelry, leather goods, linens, perfume etc as well as the usual t-shirts. My wife loves the jewelry stores downtown like Little Switzerland, Colombian Emeralds, Gandelman's, etc.

While vacations are always a matter of personal taste, I'm sure that it won't take long for you to understand why so many of us keep going back to Aruba, time and again.

Wish I would be there to meet you, but we generally go in January. Anyway, welcome and have fun. Very Happy

Hi Carol,

It hardly seems possible doesn't it? That I wouldn't be strongly urging Jan & Greg to go to El Gaucho to enjoy their 16oz gaucho steak is just so unGlenn-like.

Oh, alright then.

Jan & Greg.

A vacation in Aruba is truly wonderful. Sun, sand, the ocean, swimming, sun-bathing, shopping, eating, drinking and playing in the casinos; there's just so much to see and do. But if you do it all, you'll become tired, using up muscle, which is to say protein, right? That protein needs to be replaced. If you go to El Gaucho and have their 16oz Argentinian gaucho steak, you'll be treating yourself to the best-tasting source of protein on the planet.

Jan & Greg; as Carol, Amy, Tonya, Corinne and many others here will tell you, this is not a shameless plug for my favourite restauarant. It is, ahem.., concern for your health. Wink

So Carol, is that more like the Glenn you've come to know? Very Happy

Good morning Jen,

In my previous posts I called you Jan instead of Jen. My apologies. Embarassed

Just asking; what routing are you using to get to Aruba?

From Winnipeg, which is 500 miles nw of Minneapolis, we go United to Chicago; then American to Miami, and American again to Aruba.

Welcome Jen and Greg! I have a timeshare at LaCabana. We have been going for nine years now. When you arrive next June, all units should be completely renovated. They have completely stripped the units top to bottom and re-did everything. It is really nice. So are their pool and jacuzzis. Happy Hour is from 2pm at the beach and 4-6pm at the pool bar. They have great frozen drinks and sometimes music during that time. The huts are well maintained - but try to get one early in the morning - by 8 or 9am.

I do not recommend the restaurants at this time. Food is so-so. But that won't be a problem with all the restaurants to choose from in Aruba!
