Ok, maybe the title is a little scary. When we landed in Mexico Puerto Vallarta, the airport was loaded with timeshare lying people who would do anything to get you in there car.
We will be staying at the Marriott Resort & Stellar Casino.
Are there scams a new visitor should be aware of when they arrive? _________________ Dec 7-14, 2012: 1st Trip to Aruba PHOTOS

No. Aruba is definitely not like Mexico (we've been to MX about 14 times so know what you're referring to). Nothing like that at the airport or on the beach. You may run into a timeshare person once or twice during your trip but a simple "no thanks" is all you need. _________________ ~Amy~®

Sometime in the middle of our 20+ years, the pitchmen (or women) for timeshares seemed to disappear.
There were no more (or few) new developments.
I guess encountering people on the street or beach was producing few results.
For most of our time, we had 2 weeks and we would just say "no more vacation time and no more money".
Later on, with 3 weeks, retired seniors, we are not part of the target audience. But we'd probably give the same argument as before.
Just my opinion. _________________ Life is what we make it, always has been, always will be - Grandma Moses (1860 - 1961) |

Good afternoon Amy, John T, Dennis and everybody else,
Amy and John are right on with this. A polite "no thanks" was enough to keep the T/S salespeople away.
Like you John, Donna and I are no longer the target market. Back in the day in Aruba, the most active place for T/S sale we ran into was the entrance to Renaissance Marketplace, or the Sonesta Marketplace as it was it known own at the time.
Dennis, just in case you think it's only a Mexican or Caribbean thing, think again. By far the rudest, most persistent T/S salespeople we've run into was last July in Las Vegas. These people were inside Bally's main entrance. Anyone who politely said "no thanks" like we did was berated, loudly and rudely; "What's the matter? You don't like free stuff?" was the usual reply anytime some one declined their pitch.
Dennis, have fun in Aruba. We all do!
Bye for now,
Glenn |

I agree, my response to the "Don't you like free stuff" was I love free stuff, just not from * holes. _________________ Lenny |

Early to mid 90's, they use to come along the beach on Monday mornings, handing out fliers to get you to go to a presentation, but there was never a hard sell. They got paid by the number of fliers that got returned. The hard sell was at the resort.
Since then, most timeshares have sold-out and they don't actively seek out new owners. I think the Marriott still has a booth up by the lighthouse. _________________ No matter where you go, there you are. |

We are full-time residents of Florida (for 10 years now).
We would walk along the sand in Daytona Beach/Ormond Beach and be badgered by timeshare people.
Like Aruba, we would be fairly polite and put them off.
In Daytona, we were delighted in saying "We live here in Ormond!"
Like Aruba, for the economy and probably other reasons, we're not bothered anymore. _________________ Life is what we make it, always has been, always will be - Grandma Moses (1860 - 1961) |
