This probably will not affect anyone else on the board I don't think any of you buy grocery in San Nicolas area. The last week I dumped two half gallon milk into the drain as both were spoiled right from the supermarket. The offending ones are New Food Center and Hong Kong Supermarket. The first one I had only one sip. It smelled funny. The second one I had it in the fridge for two days. When I opened it I knew it was spoiled. So into the kitchen drain it went. Both were at least 10 days before expiration.
I hope the supermarket near the hotels have better quality control. The ones on the east side of the island is really substandard. I can't go that far to the other side of the island to shop. I have to have my morning cereal with fresh milk also. The other type of milk just does not taste right. _________________ 81st trip November 15-21, 2020

I usually buy a skim milk for my cereal. I always look at the expiration date on the milk before I buy it. Ling & Sons has had the worst where it will expire within a few days of me buying it. Kong Hing's expiration dates have been the best and have never had a problem with their milk spoiling. _________________ ~Amy~®

Another reason why we buy the Box milk. We got used to it. We even have a box at home for when we get home late from a local trip. |

We also buy the box milk. We usually get the "half-volle" or "semi-descremada" which I think corresponds to 2% milk at home. Our days in Aruba go back to the time before a modern supermarket was opened (Pueblo is now called SuperFood). The box milk is an acquired taste as it is different from refrigerated milk. Some of our guests also have to buy refrigerated milk. Having the box milk is really something different that we look forward to in Aruba. Like EBB, we sometimes have bought a box in the US...primarily used for cooking when we run out of the 1% milk in the frig. Parmalat brand in sold in our markets.
More than one year, we have found that the low-rise Kong Hing market puts the refrigerated milk on sale just after the weekend. I guess it is getting closer to the expiration date and they know that sales dip by Tuesday or Wednesday. _________________ Life is what we make it, always has been, always will be - Grandma Moses (1860 - 1961) |

Hi Edna,
To be clear, I wasn't complaining about sour milk at Kong Hing...just telling people that there seemed to a pattern of putting the milk on sale in the early part of the week. The milk was fine as we remember...but it was cheaper than usual. My guess is that they lower the price in early week...instead of risking that it will spoil.
Hope all is well,
