All I know is, they got this rate thru their travel agent and it included airfare.....and then they broke it down to "by the day rate" for me and asked me if I thought this was a good deal. _________________

I wasn't including airfare - just the AI and room.
Are your friends going to do that trip? _________________ Aruba Trip Reports |

They'll have about the same number of rooms as the Westin next door. At least they have a wider beach than the Westin. But....it won't be the nice, quiet beach that the Grand used to have with half the amount of people on it. _________________ ~Amy~®

Nope. They opted for the Hyatt instead.....I think what made the decision for them was my wide open eyes and my jaw that dropped down to my chest. _________________

That would have been my reaction as well. _________________ Aruba Trip Reports |

Only a couple of floors were timeshares. I don't think they really know what they're going to do with the timeshare owners.... _________________ ~Amy~®

It was impossible to get a timehsare trade there, so I figured there had to be a small amount of timeshares there. Wonder if they're going to make them use the AI like the Occidental. Why have a kitchen if you have to have AI? _________________ September 24 - October 8, 2010 - Divi Village

Exactly! We ALMOST bought a timeshare there one year - found a good price on a resale but decided against it since there are too many variables that we wouldn't have control over....like this one! _________________ ~Amy~®

This is really depressing for us. We stayed at the Aruba Grand the last four times we were in Aruba. We knew that the last time we were there (summer of '05) would be the last. We had previously stayed at the Whyndam, Americana, and several other places including places on Eagle Beach. The Aruba Grand was "our place." We could get up in the morning at whatever time we wished and still find a nice place under an umbrella by the pool. Granted, the pool was not the greatest, but it was a quiet and great place for us to relax and read. Every evening before dinner we would go down to the lounge and have a drink. It was quiet and peaceful. Like I said, we knew that last time was the last time. Now we're going back to the Whyndam (Westin) and hoping that we'll still be able to find the space that we so love on a vacation. |

It was our place, too. We had been staying there almost every year since 1996 - usually in the same lanai room, too. We will definitely miss "our room" and "our place". There will never be another place like it on Palm Beach. _________________ ~Amy~®

It looks HUGE but they will actually have about the same number of rooms as the Westin next door. _________________ ~Amy~®
