Spent part of the day at Reflextions (the old Nikky Beach) yesterday. Always have a nice time there - very relaxing and a good lunch, too.
Noticed the other day when we were at the beach that it was really quiet. At noon, I counted an easy 10 palapas still open and most were in the 2nd row. Very odd for this time of year. In general, it's usually always easy to get a palapa at Amsterdam Manor since it's a small hotel but the beach was more quiet than usual. Also have not needed reservations anywhere. We have called a couple of places out of courtesy but only needed to call at 5pm for reservations at 8pm for the same night. _________________ ~Amy~®

Forgot to mention that we picked up some great shrimp at the small fish store called Daily Fish located next to Super Food. Great little place that had some nice pieces of ahi grade tuna, mahi mahi filets, grouper, etc.
Super Food has also been great as usual and we're finding everything we need there without going elsewhere. _________________ ~Amy~®

Just went to the beach to grab a palapa - after 10am and still almost the entire front row of palapas are open. It's great to be able to sleep in and have a leisurely breakfast and not worry about having to be out there early. I guess it's a beach day today. _________________ ~Amy~®

Sorry if these updates haven't been as much fun as usual. We had a death in the family a few days ago (which we were somewhat prepared for - as much as one can be anyway) and it's been a good trip but a bit of a somber one as well. We are focusing on the wonderful memories and also creating new ones. _________________ ~Amy~®

Had a fun day yesterday just sightseeing. Spent some time at the Donkey Sanctuary and brought them a huge bag of carrots so they were our best friends. Made our way over to the Natural Bridge and just took in the beauty of the waves on that side of the island. Late lunch at Taste of Belgium before heading back. Also stopped at Signature Park (between the Phoenix and Westin) and took a walk down to the Westin to see the progress of the new Riu which will be built there. If you're looking for a place to rent chairs.....the Westin's beach is the place. Very quiet there and there is a vendor with a booth set up for chair rental with plenty of old Westin palapas to choose from.
After dinner last night met some friends at Screaming Eagle for drinks which is one of our favorites for after dinner drinks. Talked up a storm and ended up meeting the owner of Amuse Bistro so I think we are now "forced" to go there for dinner tonight.
Headed out for an early morning beach walk and maybe a walk to the Phoenix and back. _________________ ~Amy~®

We saw fireworks last night, too. No clue where they were coming from other than somewhere on Palm Beach - really pretty and huge. It was a nice addition to the trip. _________________ ~Amy~®

The annual tradition of camping on the beach at Easter is starting to come alive. In the area of Eagle Beach around Chalet Suisse and Oceania there are already tiny little colorful campers set up, a kids soccer game going on, and "The Iceberg" which is a floating climbing wall was just inflated and put in the water today.

Our usual palapa is the one in the front row just past the chairs with the yellow pads.
