A friend who had reservations at the Westin recently received this email from them:
"It is with great regret......The Westin Aruba Resort & Casino will be closing as a result of the sale of the hotel, which is currently scheduled for February 27, 2014......The hotel will no longer be affiliated with The Westin brand or Starwood Hotels and Resorts.....The new owners have advised us that they will close the hotel in order to undertake extensive refurbishments."
The hotel was purchased by the Riu so chances are good that they will make it another all-inclusive resort. _________________ ~Amy~®

Apparently they will be contacted no later than Feb. 4th to let them know where they are being relocated to. _________________ ~Amy~®

I'm guessing Blossoms will be "no more" as of the closing date.
I talked to a good friend of ours (chef at Pago Pago) and he said Riu wants all employees out and will be offering them a severance package. Problem is that most employees don't want to go so he sees a nasty court battle brewing. He's not even sure what he's going to do yet.
The Riu is going to do $38 million in renovations. _________________ ~Amy~®

It has been confirmed that the Westin property will be converted into a sister all-inclusive resort to the existing RIU resort. _________________ ~Amy~®

Curious if they are going to renovate the pool? It seems a bit old fashioned compared to Riu's standard pool set up. _________________ www.arubabound.com ~ www.hoosierkitties.com

I would guess that they would since they renovated the pool at the old Aruba Grand. _________________ ~Amy~®
