Hi guys! Sorry I missed you Amy! I put a whole spiel on here yesterday and my computer at work crapped out - the nerve!
The trip was wonderful! The riverboat was with Avalon Waterways. It left from Paris. That afternoon we went to the Musee D'Orsay, which was incredible. The boat stopped at a different location, heading north, everyday. We went to Rouen to see the architecture and big cathedral, on which there is a fabulous light show every night, right on the facade. We went to Giverny, home of Monet, a beautiful little town. Honfleur was a picturesque waterside village, where I bought some artwork. Normandy is a life-changer! We went to Juno Beach, Omaha Beach, the D-Day Museum and the American Cemetery. So sad to see the German bunkers with tiny holes to stick their guns out of, the big cliffs the Army Rangers had to scale and the 9,000 + graves at the cemetery. They had a small ceremony for the American tourists at the memorial with the Star Spangled Banner, Taps and a moment of silence. Then we were all given a rose to put on a soldier's grave. The beach was so beautiful and peaceful, it was impossible to imagine what had happened there.
On the way back was Richard the Lionhearted's castle and Josephine and Napoleon's Home. Then we had two days in Paris, where I did the usual haunts - Eiffel Tower, Place de La Concorde, Arc d'Triomphe, Pont Alexander and Notre Dame. We also went to the Opera House and Palace Garnier, which I loved, and the Marais section.
The food on the boat was delicious, everything fresh and of course we missed some meals to enjoy local cuisine. Alot of apples, cream and cheese. And of course I did some shopping.
My birthday dinner was at the Eiffel Tower!
It was a fabulous trip, I am truly blessed! _________________ Christmas 2015 at Disney World!
