I've been waiting to post this, giving the Riu Palace enough time to respond to my Travel Agent and my multiple emails. Apparently the Management could care less about their customers.

Thanks Valerie. The first two weeks were really bad. The Dr. was right about the length of time to heal. It took about 6 weeks before I started to feel better! _________________ My prescription for Happiness: My wife, a warm sandy beach, a palapa, & a cold Balashi ! |

I'm sorry that this happened to you....and that the Riu management didn't do better by you. I do have a question though....why did that doctor from NY advise you not to go to the hospital? Just curious?

I too am very sorry to hear this. Good to hear that you are on the mend.
Shame on Riu for how they treated you. The manager seated a few tables away and not inquiring about you really speaks volumes about how they care for their guests . <<NOT>>
Hopefully tourists will read your story and take their money elsewhere. _________________ www.arubabound.com ~ www.hoosierkitties.com

Wow...I am so sorry to hear about this (and about the way you were treated at the Riu.)
Hope you're feeling better now and on the road to recovery! _________________ ~Amy~®

So sorry to hear of this, the Riu should be ashamed of themselves. Perhaps they haven't heard about Karma. Have you posted your report on TripAdvisor?

Thanks carolrd. I did post a review on TripAdvisor. It's a shame the way the management treated us. We loved the food there and would probably have returned on our next visit !
Thanks also ruba4ever. The Dr from NY examined me while we were waiting for the ambulance to come (30 minutes later!). He felt there were no internal injuries and since we only had 24 hrs remaining, he felt that it would have wasted everyone's last day sitting in a Hospital. Plus he was concerned that they would make me pay up front before they would discharge me. Treatment for broken ribs these days is just to be careful! They don't wrap them anymore. He said that if I started bleeding in the urine or stools, then I should head for the Hospital. _________________ My prescription for Happiness: My wife, a warm sandy beach, a palapa, & a cold Balashi ! |

Hope you feel better now! Broken ribs are no joke! Although they usually heal by themselves, it takes a long time and are extremely painful. I speak from experience, it was 6 months or more before I could put on a coat normally!
I think the doctor advised you wisely since you were going home the next day. If you went to the hospital, you probably would've missed your flight home with ensuing complications.
No excuse for the Rio, they treated you shabbily! Bringing action would probably be a lost cause, God knows where the venue would be, maybe in Aruba. Since it was their fault, you should, at least, get a free vacation out of it!!
Be patient, the pain will go away in time and you'll be back in Aruba befor you know it!! _________________ John...

gkline..thanks for answering my question.. I was thinking that the doc didn't think you would receive good care there. I do understand now that it was the timeline, and that did make perfect sense. And thank goodness you didn't have any bleeding that resulted in going to the hospital. I wasn't aware they didn't wrap ribs anymore either. Learn something new every single day Very glad that you are feeling better now. Continued healing...

What a nightmare, Greg! Jeez, no one would ever expect a hut to fall on you while on vacation.
I am glad you are on the mend. Unfortunately, it doesn't sound like the RIU is going to contact you. I am also surprised at the condition of the room and hut, since this is a fairly new hotel.

I agree!!! Shame on the RIU for not checking up on you and I hope they inspected all their other structures on the beach so this doesn't happen to anyone else. |

It took posting a review on here and TripAdvisor.com before I finally heard ANYTHING from the Riu. They tell me that they don't "own" the palapas on the beach in front of their Hotel, so they technically don't owe me anything. But in their deep compassion , they will refund my medical expenses (alittle over $200) if I:
sign a release form
send them all the medical receipts
send copy of my Passport
send them my Bank Account number.
I was sort of hoping for a partial refund, due to their total lack of concern, but I guess this is better than nothing! _________________ My prescription for Happiness: My wife, a warm sandy beach, a palapa, & a cold Balashi ! |
