They're moving right along with this whole trolley thing. Every time I asked a local their opinion of it, they usually just rolled their eyes.

We came out of the back of the Renaissance mall last week.
The tracks were in...but I didn't want to try to negotiate them there to get to the other part of Mainstreet (Caya Betico Croes). I was using a rolling walker.
I suppose business traffic is down with fewer people having access to stores down that old portion of Mainstreet.
Hope they will be level with the street when construction is finished.
(Where the tracks cross LG Smith Blvd. coming from the port, they are level with the street...makes it smooth for cars to cross.) _________________ Life is what we make it, always has been, always will be - Grandma Moses (1860 - 1961) |

What a mess! We had a heck of a time getting to Que Pasa for dinner because of all the roads blocked! There was an article in the paper while we were there that said they must be done with the tracks by December 15th! LOL!!!! _________________

It was supposed to run next week. But the cable car is somewhere on the ocean being shipped to Aruba. It has to come from Jamaica. It wasn't on the ship that came in today. But there will be celebrations on Main Street in Oranjestad regardless if the cable car is there or not. |

Is it me, or doesn't seem like this is ugly? What exactly is the purpose of it? _________________ Christmas 2015 at Disney World!

They are showing photos on another website of trial runs.
I hope it will help.
Maybe there are more cruise shoppers than those who have been going for umpteen years. This will give them access.
The old downtown was fading. And personally, I am not a big fan of the new high-rise shopping malls. We go, buy little, sometimes dine.
I think that Aruba strives to be upscale for shoppers, but the market may be limited in a ho-hum economy in the US. _________________ Life is what we make it, always has been, always will be - Grandma Moses (1860 - 1961) |

When I arrived on the 14th, I was discussing the trolley with my cab driver and thirty seconds later there was a report on the radio (which he translated for me) that said the tires that arrived for the trolley cars were too large for the tracks.
In addition, when I was downtown, they are still laying bricks around the tracks. |
