Aruba Marriot /Stellaris Casino, Oct 12-18, 2003
By Helen Spencer

Hello!!!
My husband and I traveled to Aruba on our honeymoon Oct 12-18. We booked the Aruba Marriot /Stellaris Casino. Neither of us had ever been to the island and had gone purely off advice from friends. Being hurricane season at virtually every other island we decided Aruba would be our best bet, and thank goodness, we made a choice that has me Aruban in Spirit forever. I am truly a beach bum, and Mike my husband, is as well (living in NH, we needed paradise on Earth), we wanted a place to go that wasn't too "touristy", too "party central". My dream trip turned out to be just that, a dream.

The hotel was absolutely fabulous. From the bellmen at arrival to the checkout at departure, we were treated as though we belonged (unlike many island retreats). Every morning we woke at the crack of dawn, not to the alarm of reality, but to the sun pouring in our room and the call of the island. Even the chambermaids were friendly, accommodating and offered words of advice when in a quandary about what to do for the day. Having the use of both this facility and the Aruba Surf Resort was a complete and welcome surprise to us. The entire resort was a complete pleasure and we hope to relive the experience at the Marriott at every chance we get. Like others, we found the 6:30/7 am wait for a palapas hut much like waiting on line for concert tickets but it's worth it. The photos we brought home from beachside have made believers out of everyone we know.

When we were planning our trip, we wanted a beach to relax on that was similar to all the Corona commercials one sees on TV. We got exactly that and then some. When in Aruba you can't help but get off the cabana chair and experience all that the island has to offer. We went parasailing and snorkeling (a first for both of us) and it was the most surreal feeling I've ever encountered. Although there is so much that we had wanted to experience, one has to plan for more than one trip to encounter it all. Of course, the Red Sox were playing for the ALCS against the I***ees while we were there and much of our time was spent watching the games instead of moonlit walks on the beach. However, I have to say that it was the best series I have ever seen on TV. The enthusiasm and spirit was intoxicating. Whatever you do in Aruba is beyond that which you've ever experienced in your life.

Aruban in Spirit
