Occidental Grand Aruba (formely Allegro), October 8-15, 2001
By Cheryl
I just returned this week from a perfect honeymoon at the Allegro. My husband and I fell in love with Aruba and were very pleased with the Allegro. We will definitely go back!
There were mostly couples at the Allegro which suited us just fine. We were happy that there weren’t a lot of kids or single people there. It was romantic being among other honeymooners
and married couples. It set the scene for a perfect honeymoon heaven.
The Allegro has the most beautiful pool and beach I have ever seen. We did all-inclusive and were
glad we did. It was so simple and relaxing not to worry about carrying around money or standing in
lines. They give you a bracelet at check-in and that’s all you need. I thought the drinks
were strong and plentiful. Others have complained that the drinks are weak but that was not so.
The bartenders are very nice and always have a smile. They pour the alcohol right on top of the
frozen drink so you can see how much they give you! My husband got hooked on Balashi beer!! The swim-up bar at the pool is the best!!!! There are rock chairs that you can sit at.
The pool always had things going on from aerobics (I recommend dong them!) to bingo to volleyball.
There are even dancers entertaining you!!!! Watch out for the iguanas though.
The food was good. The breakfast buffet was awesome!!! Fresh made omelets and eggs! Lots of
fruit and breads and basically whatever you wanted. For lunch, we usually grabbed a burger at
pappaya’s and took it out by the pool. very good!!!! We saw 2 dinner shows and ate at the
buffet. We really enjoyed pappaya’s for dinner. Best meat we ever had. Excellent lamb and
steaks and the service was top-notch!!!! I also recommend getting a pizza. They make them fresh
in a bee-hive oven. Also very good.
Our favorite place was pappaya’s. Talk to Bernice who works there. She is very interesting
and sweet. As are all the others on staff.
We had a room on the 5th floor—great view of pool and ocean. The rooms were very clean and
we were satisfied with the room. I think the lower floor the views weren’t as good. Ours
was great!!!!
The beach is the best. The bluest, cleanest water. Get a float and just relax. The beach bar
has awesome hotdogs and drinks!!!! They keep ice-water out to cool you off.
Our only complaints is with the airlines. Us Airways was the worst!!! We got our luggage lost,
missed a flight due to a misconnection and were forces to spend the night in NYC. I won’t
complain in this report because I loved Aruba and it was worth every minute of what it took us to
get home. I don’t think we would choose Us Air again though.
See ya next year Aruba and the Allegro!!!!
