Bucuti Beach Resort, November 29 - December 7, 2000
By Norman & Anne
As I look out the window of my north Georgia home at the cold pouring rain coming down, I can vividly picture my wife and myself lying on the beach at the Bucuti just soaking in the sun.
As usual we made the mad dash down Georgia 400 to Hartfield airport for our non stop Delta flight to Aruba. It was a quick and easy flight in
comparison to many flights we hear about from other travelers. Just a side observation but for some who live in the north it might be worth geting a discount ticket to Atlanta and then fly out of Atlanta non stop...just a thought.
We landed and were out of the airport in what seemed to be a matter of minutes, we always carry on our luggage, grabbed a taxi and were at the Bucuti in about 10 minutes. This is a great resort with a fabulous beach...Eagle Beach. When you walk out on this huge beach it is almost looking at a beach in the south pacific.
It was also a topless beach since most of the women went topless the whole week we were there, I'm not complaining. We met some very nice couples and had some great conversations with them during happy hour. It suprised us that many of these couples were here at the Bucuti for
their 12, 14 even 15th year. I spoke with a guy from Amsterdam that was at the Bucuti for the 10th time. He comes every year for 2 weeks. I don't know if we will come back in December again or not, the water was very rough but the weather was great, in the 80's and clear and sunny
the whole time we were there. We are already planning our next trip to Arube for the spring after the rates go down the last of April.
Our first night out we went to the Hyatt for lobster nite. A very good meal. Nice hotel. Other places we ate were Vallentino's which we enjoyed
and the Driftwood had great seafood. While out doing some town shopping we were looking for a place to have lunch and stopped in at Chez Mathilde. My wife fell in love with the place and the food was superior. Later in the week we went back for dinner. It is expensive but not unlike
any upscale restaurant you will find in Atlanta. Le Dome was also good and the Gasparito's is always great. so many choices and so little time....why don't we all just move there.
While lying on the beach one day soaking in the rays, my wife showed me a newsflash from the local paper....its FUNNY. It seems Sooty a overly frisky guinea
pig found his way into the female community where he lives and in 2 nights of frenetic passion got 24 females pregnant. The exertion left him totally exhausted and spent 2 days sleeping it off. Wow what a night he had!! The owners are looking for homes for all the babies, some 42 and
counting.
Our time at the Bucuti was mostly spent on the beach relaxing, no phones, no faxes, no pagers going off, just relaxing and enjoying the people,
the beach and the great food. We have stayed on Palm beach before and this time decided on Eagle beach. Both are wonderful and you can not go wrong staying at either one.
