Good morning everybody,

The trip I wrote about our vacation earlier this month has been posted.

As usual, no photos. Word pictures will have to do.

I tried to be entertaining and informative without being too long-winded. Whether I succeeded is for you to judge dear friends.

Hope you enjoy it.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Enjoyed your review Glenn! We were at Hollywood Smokehouse on Sat 10/10 for dinner. And we also were at Barney's on Thursday - Rib night. Really enjoyed Barneys, HS, not as much.

We also ate at Yemanja (my current favorite), Wacky Wahoo, Driftwood, Salt & Peppers (one breakfast and one dinner) S&P was our last night, the night of the electrical outage. It was challenging finding somewhere to eat that wasn't so crowded. Laughing

We went to a party at a friends one night, everyone brought something (food or drink) Had a great time with friends, and making new ones.

Hey Glenn - forgot to ask you....where did you buy your card for parking? That seems to be the easy way to go - just buy the card and refill as needed.

I just submitted my trip report to Melvin with a TON of photos. It's not nearly as fun to read as Glenn's so hopefully the photos will make up for it. Wink

Glenn - I didn't post alot of food photos this time but I know there is one that you recognize right away! Also....I really think they should put your name on that bench. Wink

Great report Glen-enjoyed every minute. I have the same question as Amy-where did you get the parking card?

Excellent report Glenn!
We arrived in AUA on 9/12, left on 10/3.
NO problem getting in.
USUAL problem getting out, but it could have been worse.
After waiting a long time in various lines, I started to follow wheelchairs to the front of the line...I have been using a rolling walker in and out. It's painful to stand while inching along.
But, how can one Saturday be OK coming in...and another is awful.
We are thinking of somehow avoiding Saturday transit.

In summary, your report was great.
Ye gods, we stayed at SBS about a dozen years ago when we added a couple days. We stayed at The Mill for those pre-timeshare days. While we liked SBS, it was also quirky...probably in 2002. Will do some research for next year.

Good morning everybody,

I haven't been on here for a week or so, that's why I haven't answered anyone's questions, especially on the whole parking thing.

I bought my parking SmartCard from Sunset Beach Studios, where we were staying. It cost me 15 Afl, 5 Afl for the card and 10 Afl worth of parking time.

I would think many of the resorts might have them as well. You can get them at the Aruba Parking Authority office on Wilheminastraat, between the main police station and Renaissance.

I thought it would be a good idea would be that they be available for sale at the car rental companies. What do you think? Hey, Donna and I saw a Hertz rental car at the Marina parking lot with the yellow boot firmly attached to the front wheel!

The cards are refillable, including on-line.

Tip: Always remember your parking spot number. Nothing worse than punching into the machine the number of the spot beside the one where you actually parked.

Thanks everyone for your kind words about the TR. I like doing them.

On a non-Aruba note, the Christmas change-over in our house started yesterday. All Maui and Aruba coffee mugs were put away, and the Christmas mugs have been pulled out and are now in use. Just sayin'.

Have a great weekend.

For the casual parking person, I think we spent less than 10 Afl on one day (moving to 2 spots on same day). We used leftover Aruba coins from several past trips. We could have reduced our meager cost by knowing to take ticket #1 and get credit on ticket #2 (a small unused amount, but it would have been nice).

Do the meters also take US change? I have pulled out our Aruban change from prior trips but I thought I had read they take us coins too.

Hi,

I can't really remember if the meters take US coins as well as Afl. Would be great if they did.

I still think the SmartCard is the way to go, especially you are a regular visitor to Aruba.

Just to put things into perspective, it's supposed to snow here in Winnipeg on Thursday. Just sayin'.

Thanks so much Glenn. I think I figured out on the website where I can buy a smartcard. I will also ask at Lacabana just in case they may sell them too!

I hope the snow passes you by.
