The last time I visited Aruba was late January, 2012. A few things changed in two of my favorite restaurants on the island during the 10 months. In Yemanja the hostess Miriam and waitress Renata are no longer there. Miriam went to Papillon and Renata works in Divi now I was told. Only Jose is still there waiting the tables everyone else is new to me. But Yemanja's menu is still the same. The appetizer salads are still as good.

In Marandi only Sunder is still there waiting the table. The waitress (Amalek is her name I think but I am not sure) followed her friend Yvette (who used to wait tables in Marandi then left to runs Amuse Bistro with her husband a couple of years ago) to Amuse Bistro. Everyone else is new. However Marandi expanded the menu I noticed. If you have a liberal dinner budget you want to give Marandi a try.

One cold appetizer Marandi just started last Sunday called fish vanilla is very good. I had it Friday evening I liked it so much I ordered it tonight again. But the same dish was prepared by two different chefs it was slightly different but equally good. Fish and Vanilla has the house smoked fish, shrimp pieces with salad. Tangerine slices provided the citrus in place of vinegar. For entre I had the catch on each evening. Friday I had the swordfish and Wahoo for tonight.

The portions in Marandi are European unlike those in Yemanja. Actually Yemanja's portions are not big either except it made the adjustment to the American appetite by providing stir fried veggies, mashed potato, rice and beans on the side so you will never walk out of the restaurant feeling you haven't had enough to eat. At my age the Eropean portion appetizer and entre with a drink or two fill me up just fine my preference tilts toward Marandi.

This time of the year if you want to catch the sunset at the Laguna you need to be there between 6 and 6:30PM. Marandi opens at 5:30PM seven days a week. I am leaving Tueday I think I'll go tomorrow again.

Forgot to mention Marandi has free wifi for your smart phones and tablets. That's probably not news any more although Yemanja still doesn't have it.

Last time I was at Marandi was Sept. 2011. Used to be a favorite but was not overly impressed with their menu or food that night. Have heard they've changed their menu since then though - will have to try it again on a future trip.
