Last week the prices for flights from Indianapolis to Aruba were around $388 per person before taxes. I didn't get them then because I didn't have my hotel reservation secured. Now I do and when I checked back they are up to $498.45 before taxes and $574.40 after taxes. Darn it! Now I am trying to decide if I should gamble and wait and see if they go down or just bite the bullet and buy them?

Last year we had that mess with US Air so we are back to flying Delta. They do have a deal where you save $50 if you sign up for their credit card when buying these tickets. Anyone have the Delta card? Do you think it's worth it?

I am just terrible at deciding this stuff but I just want to get planned so I don't need to worry anymore. Our dates are October 11-22.

Both my husband and I have the Delta Amex card, We fly Delta a ton though for both work and leisure so it's a savings for us (free bags, extra miles, etc.)

I would look at the seats available on the flights you want - if it's still more than 3/4 empty I would wait.

We always go in Sept. (usually fly Delta) and don't book our flights until around May. We find that the fares are about $100 higher now and then they drop around spring time.

Thanks Amy! It looks like there are still a lot of seats. I just get so nervous! So I guess I should wait.

Do you think the card is worth it if we just fly Delta once a year to Aruba? We also get 30,000 miles when we sign up. Wonder if I should buy the tickets seperately so we can each get a card and get the miles and $50 off! How many miles do you need for a free trip to Aruba?

Will they waive the annual fee on the first year? If yes, then sign-up but don't renew your card the following year otherwise you'll have to pay the fee (or try to get them to waive it again.)

I would wait on booking....but just make sure you're checking fares a few times a week so you can catch that good one. Wink

The amount of miles needed now depends on your dates and how many seats are being used for miles. They have 3 different mileage tiers and, just like airfares, the miles needed changes all the time. It's quite the racket!

Yes, it says the $98 fee is waived the first year. That's the only reason I considered it.

Corrine, try Spirit out of LGA. Prices have been pretty decent recently. A friend of mine just flew to MYR last minute due to a death in the family and she got r/t flight for $121.

I guess this is for your upcoming cruise! Which cruise line are you going on?

Royal Caribbean!
I work not far from JFK. LGA would be much farther and I am paying for a cab right from work. I did check Spirit anyhow and all flights to Orlando were one stop.
I wound up booking the flight on JetBlue with points - mine, my husband's, points from AMEX.

We are booked! I checked the flights today and they went down again. I ended up paying $447.40 each TOTAL, which I didn't think was bad. I ended up buying the tickets seperately so we could each apply for the Delta credit card and save $50 each. I might have gotten the tickets a little cheaper but I couldn't stand waiting! We still saved $127 per ticket from what the prices were last week so I feel good about that.

So now the hotel and flight are booked. Next is the car rental and then wish for October to get here! LOL

I always say that anything under $500 is a good and decent fare.

Congrats on being booked for Oct! Cool

Fares hit a peak because of Easter and spring school vacations in the Northeast.
Are you sailing out of Port Canaveral? IMHO, it's better than Fort Lauderdale and Miami. For us, it is only 60 miles south.
