If you come to Aruba often enough you know the island cost of living is far from low. In fact Aruba is likely among the highest COL places in the Caribbean, if not the very highest. However, one of the few bargains you can get on the island is the Gouda cheese. I have been keeping a steady supply of Gouda in the house over the years.

So how cheap is the Gouda in Aruba? In the US we know it could be anywhere from $5.50 a pound up to $10. I am talking about young Gouda (Jonge kaas, not belegen or oude). I did a little comparison this trip before settling on the best bargain. Three supermarkets, S Chow afl14.75 a kilo ($3.83 a lb), Food Center afl13.95 a kilo ($3.62 a lb), Honk Kong Supermarket afl12.75 a kilo ($3.31 a lb). Anyway you cut it, it is still cheaper than the US.

How much do you pay for your Gouda?

Usually look for a less expensive alternative in the US.
Recently noticed that Publix (the Southeast local non-Wally World outlet) has aged Gouda for $10.99 per pound.

I don't think I've ever noticed what the "per pound" price is when I buy it. I'll have to take notice next time.

Publix had a Thanksgiving special of something like $6 a pound.

For things like cheese (and many other things), we now shop at Aldi's.

Still, I think, they don't match island prices.
